August 19, 2011 New Trustee: Edward C. Matthews IIIWelcome Edward C. “Ned” Matthews III of Sikeston to the Society’s Board of Trustees. Mr. Matthews takes the place of James R. Mayo, Bloomfield, who resigned earlier this year due to health concerns. Matthews will stand for re-election in November at the Society’s Annual Meeting.Ned Matthews is involved in his family’s businesses and has served as vice president of the Bank of Sikeston; president, Bank of Sikeston Holding Company; and director, Bank of Sikeston and AmeriFirst Bancorporation, Inc., Bucoda Gin Company, Scott County Milling Company, and Semo Grain Company. Currently, he is general partner of the E. C. Matthews Limited Partnership, director of the Matthews Cotton Company, and agent for Matthews Mineral Account. In 2004 he published Matthews: The Historic Adventures of a Pioneer Family, profiling the lives of eight generations of the Matthews family as they settled in the Louisiana Territory and aided the growth and development of southeast Missouri. The central figure, C. D. Matthews, born poor in the 1840s, risked his life to supply corn and wheat to the South during the Civil War and went on to make a fortune in banking, lumber, railroads, and land. posted @ 4:14 PM |
